The Hip-Hop Research and Education Fund, PowerPAC and the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network convened a press conference in Philadelphia on March 19 to announce the organizations’ coalition and the launch of the national “Hip-Hop Team Vote: Turn Up The Vote” campaign. Hip-Hop Team Vote will focus on mobilizing the hip-hop generation of voters to ensure the largest youth voter turnout in American history. Terrence J, host of BET’s popular show “106 & Park,” made a special appearance to show the young people of America how easy it is to register to vote, by registering to vote on-site. Terrence said, “As I sign this registration form I think of the many people who were sprayed by hoses, bit by dogs and sacrificed their life for me to have this opportunity to sign this. This is a significant and meaningful election, and everyone needs to get out there and vote.” The Hip-Hop Research and Education Fund, PowerPAC and the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network will hold the first National “Turn Up the Vote” Youth Summit in Philadelphia on April 20th, two days before the important primary in Pennsylvania.
